Google celebrates London 2012

Google has marked the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games with a Doodle depicting athletes from various disciplines.

Swimming, football, fencing, athletics and basketball feature on the doodle that welcomes everyone on the Google homepage today.

Beyond the homepage, Google have also added an extensive amount of content allowing users to follow the progress of the games.

Below the doodle you'll find a link to Follow the Olympics that reveals an impressive array of content including a full medals table that Google will keep updated through the competition.

It's interesting to note Google will also be monitoring the trending searches in relation to the Olympics.  At the bottom of the Follow The Olympics page you'll find a "Hot searches" section.

At the time we published this article the two trending items were Neymar (the Brazilian footballer) and Mitt Romney, probably because of his somewhat less than diplomatic remarks about the Games yesterday!
