Social media users are well used to the word 'trending', but McDonald's could soon be offering people trending menu items.

Acquiring Dynamic Yield in a deal worth over $300 million is going to see the Drive-Thru experience change in a way akin to features of many social media channels.

The technology McDonald's get with the purchase will allow them to tailor the Drive-Thru to take into account things like weather, restaurant footfall/traffic and trending menu items. It won't stop there either, as the system can make recommendations for items to accompany your choices.

The technology is due to hit the USA later in 2019 and then deploy globally. What's more, it'll then move to in-store self-service devices and the McDonald's app.

If you think this type of tech sounds like other companies would want to use it too, you'd be right. Dynamic Yield will still operate under the McDonald's umbrella as a separate company serving other clients.
